ANALYSIS ABOUT THE MEMBER CITIES OF CITTASLOW NETWORK AND
SUSTAINABLE TOURISM CRITERIA
ABS TRACT
Slow city (cittaslow) is a union of towns which focus on reducing the negative factors affecting the human and human life,
protection of existing cultural and physical value, in accordance with the principles of sustainability to be transferable to
subsequent generations as protected. As well as being a local economic development model, the slow cit y movement is a
social network, which respects sustainable values, nature, the traditions and customs, using renewable energy sources, under
the leadership of the cities that benefit from the convenience of technology. There are 9 towns in Turkey, and has a total of
195 participating towns through 33 countries worldwide. Slow city settlements wishing to join the network, must fulfill some
of the principles and criteria set forth by the International Cittaslow Organization and is expected to be sustainable in the
criteria of candidate cities or settlements. Included in the slow city network and certificates, settlements can remain in
network with a certificate renewed every four years. Accordingly; slow city network located and candidate residential area of
"environment, infrastructure, technology, hospitality, awareness and support for the slow food project" main title and must
meet a total of 71 criteria of minimum 50% of which consists of various sub-headings.
In this paper, it is mentioned that the globalization movement threatens the diversity and the originality of the cities and also
the negative trends those became more threatening widespread globalization movement. We aimed to emphasize the
importance of diversity and the originality of the whole world with local and unique urban values and sustainable approaches
in order to improve the protection of these values by "Slow City M ovement". In this direction; the similar and decomposed
points of slow city network membership criteria and sustainable tourism principles are analyzed and the recommendations for
the importance of sustainable development are put forth.
