THE IMPACT OF REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT OF SUSTAINAB LE TOURIS M: A MODEL
PROPOSAL FOR THE CULTURAL TOURIS M DEVELOPMENT IN GUMUS HANE
ABSTRACT
As a result of industrialization process, social, economic, cultural, technological and environmental developments have
emerged sustainability as an important phenomenon . The objective of sustainability,is to prevent the economic ,social and
environmental negative effects resulting from the impact of human activities on environmental resources.
Sustainability in tourism is extremely important for transferring the cultural and natural resources to further generations. It is
possible to access regional development through sustainable tourism in areas which have a potential in tourism but can not
use their resources effectively yet . The areas having the potential cultural tourism capacity contribute the development of
tourism by means of keeping the sources cultural heritage.Cultural tourism which is considered as one of the types of
alternative tourism carry the ability to create the regional development and it supports the development of sustainable
tourism.
The aim of this study is to propose a cultural tourism development model for Gümüşhane by examining the impact of
sustainable tourism on regional development. The first part of study is consist of sustainability ,sustainable tourism and
regional development concepts. In the second part, socio-economic status and cultural tourism potential of Gümüşhane and
the potential tourism benefits to the region have been discussed on the basis of observation and scientific research.In the last
part,a model was proposed for Gümüşhane.Finally ,a cultural tourism development model was proposed to be applied in four
levels.
